Google Launches New Browser

On 2nd September 2008, Google dived headfirst into the Free browser wars.

They released Google Chrome, which is a direct rival to Internet Explorer and Firefox web browsers.

The question on everyones mind is:

"Can Google Chrome make a significant impact on the already established IE and Firefox market share?"

Microsoft has had the lions share of the browser market for a number of years since it's free version 4 of the Internet Explorer browser, which basically wiped out the paid Netscape browser for market share.

More recently... Firefox have been busy clawing back a 20% share in the browser market, but that may soon be about to change.

The Google browser is said to have some advanced privacy features, but the main imporvent is said to be in speed. Other features include:

  • Built in new Javascript Virtual Machine which parses Javascript faster
  • Tabbed pages
  • Ability to create an incognito browser window where nothing that occurs in that window is logged on the computer.. hmmm.
  • Special homepage where you can see a collection of your favorite pages (you can see this in the screenshot above).
  • The new browser is open source, which means it's free, and there should be plenty of cool plugins in the pipeline.

Latest Update

I downloaded the new Google Chrome Browser. Wow! it looks good and is easy to use, but be warned there are issues using it to edit hubs. Hopefully these issues will be addressed quickly.
